Display Options: You can change the display options for the map by clicking on the tab marked “Display Option” above the map legend on the left-hand side of the screen (under the Open icon). The display settings will allow you to:
— Turn ZIP code lines on / off
— Turn State lines on / off
— Turn County lines on / off
— Turn County labels on / off
— Change the format of county labels, ZIP labels, and Territory labels
Base Map Options: In the main menu, to the far right, is a drop-down box that allows you to put a semi-transparent overlay on your map for reference.
— Choose from Google Labels, Google Maps, Bing Maps, and others
— Setting Transparency with the slider bar below it will allow you to customize the degree to which the colors reflect the underlying base map or the territory colors.
Label Options: In the top menu, you can switch from the Main menu to the Label Options menu, which will allow you to:
— Turn ZIP code, city name, and data value labels on/off
— Adjust the number of labels
— Modify the format of those labels (under Display Options)
— Turn Territory Labels and Data values on/off
— To add a territory, district, region or area, click the corresponding button and wait for the item in the legend to say “New Item” and then you can type in the name you'd like to call the geography. Be sure to avoid special characters.
— To rename a geography (i.e. territory) make sure your blue bar is on a territory OTHER than the one you want to rename. Then click the Rename button. You can now select the territory you want to rename. When it is selected, type in your new name. Please note that for territories, you'll want to only give the name of the territory (do not keep the data value for the territory in the name) — the software will append the data value after you rename it.
— To delete a geography in the legend, first make sure that it is empty. Territories have to have no ZIP codes nor data associated with it. You need to align those ZIP codes to a different territory (even if it is the Unassigned territory) before you can delete it. Districts, Regions, and Areas have to have no territories inside them. Once a geography is empty, click on a territory OTHER than the one you want do delete. Then click the Delete button. Now you may select the territory you'd like to delete in the legend.
— To move a territory between districts (or move districts between regions), simply drag the territory label in the legend to the name of the district you'd like it to be in.
— In the main menu, click on the Change Color button. Now click on any ZIP code in the map (not the legend on the left) and a dialog box will let you select the color you'd like the territory to be.
— To recolor districts, regions, or areas, first go to the Label Options menu at the very top and change the “Color Map by” drop down box to either districts, regions, or areas. Once the map is displaying the appropriate geography, you can change the menu back to the Main Menu, click on Change Color button, and then on any ZIP code (in the map, not the legend) of the item you'd like to change. A dialog box will let you select the color you'd like.
— If you would like to save the color schemes of your maps (so that you can keep specific colors for specific geographies in the future), change your top-most menu to the Color Scheme menu. You can now save a color scheme. Please note that the software will save a separate text file with information about the territory name and its color, therefore you'll need to save your color scheme whenever you add or rename a territory, district, region, or area. It is also important to note that saving your color scheme does NOT save your alignment. Continue to use the Save button on the main menu to save your alignment. The next time you use Sales Territory Map and you've loaded your alignment, you can use the “Apply saved color scheme” button to recolor your territories as desired.
— The “Map Snapshot” menu allows you to save your map as a .jpg or .bmp by clicking on the “Save .jpg” button.
— Increasing the Map Size will split your screen into tiles, save sections of your map, and then piece them together to appear as a much higher resolution map. The software can print very high quality wall maps up to 4' x 6'.
— Sophisticated users that want multiple maps can use the “.jpg All” button to create a map for everything that the legend has a check box for. If you only want to create territory maps for all territories in one district, then, you should only have that district's territories turned on before clicking the “.jpg All” button.
— Sophisticated programmers with a Google Map API can use the “.html All” button to create a Google Map .kml file. The file can be used without an API key, but the resulting map will be grayed out with a warning from Google (which many customers still feel is very useful even without the API key).
Quick Align: Drag and drop ZIP codes from one territory to another.
Loop Align, or Lasso: First, select your alignment destination. This can be done by either right clicking on a ZIP code in your desired territory destination or left clicking on that territory in the legend (use this method for new territories).
Next, left click on ZIP codes in the map to make points of a polygon you wish to align. Finish by double-clicking to set the last point of the polygon. All of the ZIP codes that have centroids within your polygon will be moved to the alignment destination.
Clean Slate: This file of recently updated ZIP codes is a great start if you don't already have a ZIP-terr alignment and want to align by population. The file starts with 5 territories from which you can begin to modify the alignment by 5-digit ZIP code from within the software. Just save this file to your computer and open it within Sales Territory Map when prompted to open your alignment file.

Start with an alignment by State: This option is a great way to begin if you want to start your alignment by typing in the territory names on a State-by-State basis. By entering the 50 territory names, your map will start with that alignment from which you can modify it at the ZIP code level.
Download the following file to your computer. Open it in Excel. On the sheet titled “State Alignment”, change only the purple cells to valid territory name. Save the file and close it. Open Sales Territory Map and when prompted for an alignment file, open this file within the software.

Import your own territory and data: This method gives you full control over importing your own territory (district, region, and area) information as well as a custom data field. This method requires intermediate to advanced Excel skills. We've already written the VLOOKUP formulas and created the Pivot Tables for you to make it easier, but you should have working knowledge of how they work to ensure that all your data is being captured.
